India is set to field the same team for both the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.

The decision for the national selectors, who met virtually on Saturday, to choose the 15-man team for the three ODIs against Zimbabwe, was the simpler one (July 30). The challenging assignment will come in a week when the selectors gather once more to choose the team for the Asia Cup. The announcement of the Asia Winning squad should be made before August 8th.

Almost the exact same team will travel to Australia for the Twenty20 World Cup in October-November, barring any unforeseen circumstances like injuries, it can be said with some degree of surety. The six T20I matches against Australia and South Africa in September and October will also feature the same group of players. Prior to the World Cup, the selectors seek to provide the team management with a suitable number of games to work with.

There is no doubt that Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul will all return for the Asia Cup. Due to family and medical obligations, the three are now absent from the West Indies T20I team.

At the selection meeting on Saturday, Rahul's health was brought up, and it was learned that the Karnataka batsman had still not entirely recovered from Covid. He is anticipated to be ready for the Asia Cup, which the Asian Cricket Council just moved from Sri Lanka to the UAE (ACC). The competition is slated to begin on August 27 and conclude on September 11.

The contenders for the Twenty20 World Cup currently have exactly four more games left against the West Indies until the selectors decide their team for the Asia Cup on August 8. In the five-match series, which concludes on August 7 in Florida, the United States, India is up 1-0.
